"If you like the natural view of mother earth, this is the place to go. Just getting here was an awesome experience. There's so much to see and visit. You have mountains, river's, restaurants, cave's, lakes and much more. The place is simply relaxing since you arrive on the spot. We arrived at night but the experience was grateful when you see the cottage with its lights on and the door wide open. Feel the air and in the dark night fall you can see flying insects that light the dark, simply awesome. Inside there's all you need, a bed, bath and kitchenette. "We had a great time in Puerto Rico. You were an excellent hostess. We really appreciated your kindness. Thanks for helping us find fun things to do and giving us directions. We made it to the beach you mentioned on Thursday and went to the caves on Friday. Both were beautiful! We did get to eat at Dela's ... she was very kind and helpful and the food was amazing! The cottage was wonderful. It was clean, cozy ...and thanks for the rum, chocolates, milk, bananas, mango and the lemons....yum! We will miss the scenery for sure! We have no complaints at all...everything was perfect! I love the fact that I didn't get eaten up by bugs. Tha'ts a treat for me because anytime I step foot outside at home they are biting me! "My husband and I stayed at Jungle Jane's Jungle Lodge June 1th and 12th. It was wonderful. The lodge is in an extremely picturesque setting and Marlene has made it the perfect couple's retreat. I only wish we would have decided to stay more than just two days. Prior to our visit, Marlene and I chatted on the phone and via e-mails. She was so much fun and we couldn't wait to meet her. She came over our first night, w/ her best friend Rosie, to introduce herself and see if things were to our liking. I told her that other than the mosquitoes (it had just rained and the mosquitoes were enjoying the damp air and fresh blood), we were having a great time. She informed me that bug spray was in the bathroom and suggested spray it on quickly...she truly had thought of everything to make our stay an enjoyable one. On our 2nd night she came over and we chatted a long time. We invited her in for a drink and talked a lot more. She invited us over to her home and we gladly accepted. Once we passed through the gate from the lodge property to hers, we were greeted by her dogs; they love attention. Brett (my husband) and Marlene played w/ the computer downloading our itinerary while Rosie and I played w/ 3 adorable kittens they'd found that morning along the highway. We joined Marlene for her evening stroll to the barn to feed the horses and goats, bud them goodnight and returned to the lodge. There is nothing like the sounds of the jungle lulling you to sleep (coqui, lizards, birds, insects, the river and raindrops on the roof). It is simply wonderful. I awoke in the night to a coqui singing inside the lodge. I was able to locate him and take a few pictures; he was the first coqui I had seen on the trip and I was so excited. Also a little lizard was on Brett's chest watching him sleep; it was hilarious and I wanted a photo so badly, but knew the flash would wake Brett so I passed. We awoke our final morning and had a quick bite on the chairs outside just enjoying the view one last time. We walked to Marlene's and thanked her for a wonderful time. We wanted photos of she and Rosie as keepsakes and she gladly obliged. We gave big hugs all around then we continued on our journey. Marlene continued to e-mail us and has even called to see how the rest of our travels have gone. "If you want to 'get away from it all'...this is perfect: A little cottage in the rain forest of Puerto Rico. It was our first visit there and it couldn't have been better. We left, hoping someday we would return. We drove up in our rental car from Ponce. My husband was wonderful driving the narrow, very curvy roads and I was petrified. I just knew a big eight-teen wheeler, coming from the opposite direction was going to mash up flat. That never happened. Just remember it takes twice as long to get anywhere, because of the roads and how slow you have to drive. The beautiful scenery is worth it. Marlene had told us where we could stop and buy groceries in Utaudo. We purchased cereal and milk for breakfast, cheese, crackers and some wine. We had brought our own coffee, not remembering there was fresh-ground coffee waiting for us in the cottage. One of our favorite meals was at Rancho Marina. Again, thanks to Marlene. Her suggestions are right on target. We drove about fifteen minutes on 612 to Los Dos Botellas. Marlene had called for us and Vivian sent a boat over to pick us up. We had a delightful meal then took the government boat and rode around the lake. Then they dropped us off back at Los Dos Botellas. We returned to the cottage well fed and very content. My favorite spot was the porch. We would sit out there and read, or visit, or just sit. It's nice to just sit. This is not a hotel room. It is a cottage. A well appointed cottage. All the necessities are there for you. And the surroundings are awesome. If you are so inclined, and have the opportunity...take it! You won't be disappointed! "My husband and I stayed at Jungle Jane's Cottage in Utuado, PR this past December and had just an incredible experience! I am feeling a bit possessive about this location and almost hesitant to spread the word. There wasn't any blaring advertisement for Jungle Jane's and we actually found out about it by searching through sites like this. We don't stay in hotels - we look for privately owned accommodations, hoping to get a more authentic feel of the location. We outdid ourselves with Jungle Jane's. From the moment we arrived it was magic. Greeted first by four very loving Satos and then their owner, Marlene, we were lead to the perfect cottage. The large front porch, beautiful furnishings and incredible design of the interior where just what we needed. Papayas on the porch, handmade soaps, thought provoking reading and just plain serenity. We had plans to explore the two days there but just couldn't pull ourselves away from our own front porch...so we didn't. That first night Marlene, my husband and I did a lot of chatting and admittedly had some great rum supplied by Marlene...both flowed freely. Marlene is amazing and the perfect hostess - never intrusive, very accommodating. We still keep in touch. An animal lover and free-spirit. A highlight of our stay was the day I asked if she would let her horses graze on our side of the fence and her sweet pups wonder freely - just to have those beautiful Paso Finos so near was heaven, having had to give up my horse years ago. "The cottage has so much character. Everywhere you look there is something unique and beautiful- inside and outside. The porch is great for sitting, reading, relaxing to the sounds of nature all around. She brought the horses over and fed them papayas so we could get pictures and watch them playing. The location of the cottage is perfect. Only minutes by car from town and right on the river. The waterfall across the river can be heard all day and night. "My husband and I were truly blessed to have encountered this cottage while researching accomodations in Puerto Rico that were "off the beaten path". Janes Jungle Lodge was everything the description said it would be and more! We were greeted by two white horses! The owner is so down to earth and accomodating you could sit and talk with her for hours. Not to mention that she truly loves her guests and will do everything to make your stay wonderful. "My wife and I went to Puerto Rico for our anniversary. This was my favorite location of the trip, which included a deluxe hotel in San Juan and a trip to Culebra. Laying in the cottage at night and listening to the Coqui sing all around us was heavenly. An added bonus was finding ripe Passion fruit in the jungle behind the cottage.
